I generally provide a complete architectural services from start to finish of a project; this is necessary where high quality architectural design is achieved. However, I can tailor my services to suit the requirements of a particular client, should they want only a feasibility study, or services up to submission of a planning application.
Services include:
Site appraisal and brief formation: Compiling a list of your needs as a client. Looking at your site from an architect’s perspective and exploring its possibilities. Identifying the services you need and the steps you need to take. Discussing your budget. A brief can then be made which describes the requirements of the design.
Building surveys: Conducting a full measured survey of an existing building, prepare a report and advise on the condition. This is invaluable as a starting point for a new design proposal.
Architectural design: An initial design outlines the direction for the future of the project. Ideas can be explored and design changes made with ease at this stage. Once agreed upon, a Detailed Design is developed for obtaining Planning Permission. Once Planning Permission is obtained (if required) a Developed Design is developed. This is the very detailed design work, undertaken with the input of a Structural Engineer and other consultants. Here detailed specifications on materials, finishes built in furniture etc. are made.
Building Conservation: I have accreditation and experience in conservation architecture, working on historic buildings and protected structures.
Putting a project to tender: Once a Developed design has been agreed upon, it can be put to tender, where several builders price the job and one is selected to complete the works.
Architectural drafting: If you have a design of your own I can progress it through the design stages as I would one of my own designs.
Model making and 3D imaging: To aid in visualising a project. This is useful for people who find it dufficult to see a building in their mind before completion, for people who want to show a projec to investors, of for people trying to sell a site with planning permission.
Planning advice and applications: Advising if your project requires planning permission and making an application to the local authority. I can also provide a service regarding planning appeals. I can liaise with Planning Authorities on your behalf.
Co-ordinating other construction professionals: Most projects require the input of Structural Engineers Quantity Surveyors and wastewater treatment consultants. Energy consultants are also often used nowadays.
Ensuring compliance with building regulations: This is becoming a very important issue as the requirements of Building Regulations become more onerous. Every client is required to appoint a professional to oversee compliance.
Managing a contract with your builder: Dealing on your behalf with the building contractor and administrating the project to ensure that it is delivered in accordance with the design and planning permission.
Health and safety: I can provide an additional service to act as your Project Supervisor Design Process. While this is not an architectural service each client is required to appoint a PSDP for substantial construction work.
